The Start

Uden,

Netherlands

I was born in a small town in the Netherlands and grew up running around with my older brother.  From a young age I wanted to do all the things he was doing like skateboarding, snowboarding, riding bikes and anything adrenaline filled.  I loved the feeling of flying through the air, going fast,  and scaring myself.  No matter what the activity was, if it was fun and/or extreme, I was doing it!

Career

Snowboarding

There are no mountains in the Netherlands, but we had a dryslope that was constructed from recycled trash.  It was here I first tried snowboarding.  I would hit the same (and only) jump from sun up until they kicked me off at closing.  From the dryslopes I began traveling to Austria to get on actual snow and mountains.  It was here I began progressing and taking my abilities to the next level.  By the 2000's I started traveling around the world and competing in major contests.  In 2006 I competed at my first Winter Olympics in Torino, placing 11th in the halfpipe competition.  During that time I also became World Champion.  I went on to compete in two more Olympics and was awarded World Champion twice more.  I was featured in the “Open Air” backcountry series and was the first woman to land a cab double underflip.  I was also the first women to land a 900 in competition.  Pushing the progression on the female side of the sport was the fuel to my fire.  In the following years I accumulated a number of video parts featuring my riding in the streets and backcountry, as well as continuing to stay on top in the competition circuit.  By 2010 I was named Snowboarder Magazine’s “Female Rider of the Year”, and in 2013 I won the bronze medal at the New Zealand Winter Games.  In 2016 I achieved my lifelong goal of winning my first X Games Gold medal in Big Air.  Most recently I was invited to compete in the 2022 Natural Selection Tour.  This contest honors the most innovative in the backcountry and is a huge honor to get the invite.  I get asked often if I am ready to hang it up after 15+ years of competing, but I still love it as much as those days of learning new tricks on the dryslope.

Motorcycle

Being Dutch means you learn to ride a bicycle before you learn to walk.  Being on two wheels forever feels like home to me.  Once I was old enough I upgraded to a moped which I immediately tuned to go faster.  When it was time for me to get my first job I chose pizza delivery just so I could be on my moped, I still think I hold the record for the fastest delivery times. - haha.  The second I had made enough money through snowboarding I bought myself my first Harley Davidson.  This was a dream come true.  I love everything about the history and culture of motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson.  I was able to intertwine my two passions and collaborated with Harley to make a film about riding my motorcycle to the mountains to snowboard and show how the lifestyles are parallel.  In the past 5 years I have started spending more time in the US and it is here I discovered flat track racing.  I went to my first "race" in a tiny town in Idaho in a farmers field.  A random guy saw me drooling over what I was watching and asked if I wanted to borrow his gear and try it myself.  Of course I took the offer and jumped on his bike and raced my first oval dirt track.  I bought myself a race bike a week later - I was completely hooked.  I now race a 450cc in the Women's Class and a Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 in the Hooligan's Class.  I traveled across the US  chasing as many races as I could afford. My 3 daughters were also being seen in the 50cc class battling the boys just like their mom!

Snowmobiling

With my passion for all things motor and my love of playing in the snow it was a no brainer that snowmobiling quickly become one of my favorite winter activities! I was originally introduced to snowmobiling during my snowboard filming trips and we used them to access locations in the backcountry. In the past 3 years I have moved and made a permanent home in the mountains of Idaho in a small town considered to be a snowmobile Mecca. It's been here that I have ridden with some of the best in the world and really pushed my limits and progressed my skills. The excitement of learning and pushing to be a top female rider while inspiring other women brings all the same excitement and joy I had at the beginning of my snowboard career at such a young age. I am so grateful to be getting to experience that thrill and drive all over again at this stage in my life and I hope to inspire women to continue chasing new hobbies and passions at all stages of your life! I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon, it's only full throttle for me!

Behind the Scenes

Personal Life

IMG_9530 2.HEIC

I have had many accomplishments throughout my life, but none that compare to the family that I have created.  I have a wonderful wife who is my biggest supporter and together we have 3 little girls who bring us so much joy.  I am lucky enough to have a family that supports my career choices and also isn't afraid to partake! We love traveling as a family - planes, trains, and automobiles! Life on the road with 5 strong women can be interesting at times, but I would never trade the priceless memories we are making along the way.  It's so fun to watch our girls become individuals and discover their own interests and I cannot wait to see where their dreams will take them!
